Hi,

If Customer installs OMSA 8.3 in an unsupported OS, it might fail because of NVMe implementation. But, you can suppress loading NVMe library by using the following steps to avoid any crash.

Please do the following steps for disabling psrvil which is required for detecting NVMe Devices:

1. To stop all the services, please execute the command - srvadmin-services.sh stop

2. Go to /opt/dell/srvadmin/etc/srvadmin-storage/ directory

3. Open stsvc.ini file

4. Please comment the line - vil7=dsm_sm_psrvil. For commenting it out, you need to write “;” and one space before the statement, like “; vil7=dsm_sm_psrvil”

5. Save and close stsvc.ini file

6. To start all the services, please execute the command - srvadmin-services.sh start

It will stop loading psrvil library and OMSS should work fine.

Note: After commenting out psrvil library in stsvc.ini file, NO NVMe devices will get detected by OMSA

Thanks
Souvik

Subject: [Linux-PowerEdge] dsm_sa_datamgrd can NOT start after installed srvadmin-storage-cli package

Hi,

After I install 'srvadmin-storage-cli' package and running `srvadmin-services.sh restart` restart service.
The status of 'dsm_sa_datamgrd' became stopped. I have tried restart service and reboot server.

There was always show a segment error at syslog :

    kernel: dsm_sa_datamgrd[4470]: segfault at 7fd07b548388 ip 00007fd07989f591 sp 00007fffaabb33c0 error 4 in ld-2.17.so<http://ld-2.17.so>[7fd079896000+21000]
dataeng[4389]: Starting dsm_sa_datamgrd: [FAILED]

    kernel: traps: dsm_sa_datamgrd[5496] general protection ip:7f2fa7392591 sp:7ffde85178d0 error:0 in ld-2.17.so<http://ld-2.17.so>[7f2fa7389000+21000]
dataeng[5415]: Starting dsm_sa_datamgrd: [FAILED]

This error would make `omreport` command did NOT working any more :

    # omreport chassis bios
    BIOS Information

Unable to get BIOS version information.

    # omreport storage pdisk connector=0
    Error! Required parameter missing: controller

My server models :

    R730 biosver=2.0.1
    R430 biosver=1.6.2

OS version:

    CentOS 7.2 64bit

OMSA packages version :

    srvadmin-omacs-8.3.0-1908.9058.el7.x86_64
    srvadmin-xmlsup-8.3.0-1908.9058.el7.x86_64

    srvadmin-nvme-8.3.0-1908.9058.el7.x86_64
    srvadmin-omilcore-8.3.0-1908.9058.el7.x86_64

    srvadmin-smcommon-8.3.0-1908.9058.el7.x86_64
    srvadmin-storage-cli-8.3.0-1908.9058.el7.x86_64

If I remove 'srvadmin-storage-cli' and its depending packages, `srvadmin-services.sh restart` would load 'dsm_sa_datamgrd' successfully without any kernel error message.

Removed packages :

    srvadmin-storage-cli
    srvadmin-nvme
    srvadmin-realssd
    srvadmin-storage
