PE2650 and fans...

I have a PE2650 running CentOS 3.8...

I had an E0412 (RPM Fan 4) error...

Opened the case and swapped out the fan-- should have been no biggie,
but the system was hung/nothing on the console when I finished.
This system also had dual (front/back) CPU fans.

Power cycling brought it back.

Changing components live on the PE line is generally a no-brainer. 
Any ideas why this event went badly?
