SATA disks in a PowerEdge 1950?

Inside the server a SATA 2 disk should work fine. However, it is
important to keep in mind that SATA disks do not have the same signal
level as SAS disks and thus in external enclosures an interposer is
needed to boost the signal level.

I've got 2 1950's with a 73GB SAS disks in them (on the PERC 5/i).
Can I just replace them with generic ~500GB SATA/300 disks and expect
them to work?

Mark.
