IPMItool returns false value on PowerEdge 1950

Let me add my data points to the story:
1950 2x5150 centos-4.3 x86_x64 (2.6.9-34.0.2.ELsmp), two negative cpu temps
2950 1x5130 el4u4 x86_64 (2.6.9-42.0.3.ELsmp), one negative cpu temp, the 
other +50.0000

I have a few more machines but have not been able to verify them yet. So far 
it's 100% negative temps for cpus in 9th gen servers here.

Both machines had the latest ipmitool as shipped with el4/cento-4 (.4/u4)
