Tape stuck in Sony DAT?

I discovered this morning that my nightly Amanda backup errored out. I
tried to eject the tape and got this error:

cn2:~# mt offline
mt: /dev/tape: Input/output error
cn2:~#

The tape didn't eject. When I got to the console, I discovered the
information I pasted in at the end of this note (it was also in dmesg).

How do I get this tape out? Will rebooting the host help? Is there any
more elegant way, without rebooting? I tried holding the eject button
for up to 30 seconds, but nothing seemed to happen. The Busy LED is off,
Tape is on solid and Status is slow blinking. I looked for a small hole,
like CDs and floppy have for a manual emergency eject, but couldn't find
one.

Any ideas from the dmesg dump what was going on? This is the first time
this has happened. Any signs that this is going to repeat more
frequently?

Thanks for your suggestions.
