bypassing PERC?

Just because its not supported by Dell or Red Hat, doesn't mean it 'stops' working in Linux 2.6 kernels, unless the kernel drivers provided aren't in 2.6 natively.

Subject: bypassing PERC?

We have a PE1300/550 with PERC2/SC.

Dell/LSI and hence RHEL-4 no longer supports this RAID controller per
RHEL-4's release notes:
http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/enterprise/RHEL-4-Manual/release-notes/as-x86/

I tested it and, indeed, no hard drives are detected, where RHEL-3 has
no problems detecting these.

I tried just deleting the hardware RAID array, hoping it would just see
the attached disks (at least this way I could use Linux Software RAID),
but that didn't work either.

Is there any way to "bypass" the PERC?

If not, I suppose I'll have to stick with RHEL-3 with these controllers.
