PERC3/Di failure workaround hypothesis

I have PE2650 running RHEL 2.1 ES with a RAID5 config. Should I as a preventative measure, disable the caches until new firmware comes up? Also what are the exact consequences of turning off the caches? I assume there will be some performance hit, but what exactly will it be?

Likely yes, though it will take some time to release - any firmware
change must be tested across multiple controllers on several
server types, and with multiple operating systems, to ensure that the
"fix" doesn't break anything else.

Thanks,
