1750 and 2650 that give these errors

I haven't seen this error, but ASC/ASCQ of 40h/8Ch means that the drive had a diagnostic failure on some component of the drive (the 8Ch indicates the component, but I believe the meaning of it is vendor specific). I wouldn't expect the driver or kernel to directly cause this... perhaps the new driver or kernel is asking the drive to perform some diagnostic that the old version didn't? Or perhaps a new command is used that indirectly causes the drive to run diagnostics?

The bus resets are probably just Linux's way of dealing with the command failures.

Subject: 1750 and 2650 that give these errors

Hello
I was looking for some help or a push in the right direction to find out why after upgrading to new kernel/device drivers we have been getting these drive errors on a lot (75 or so) servers...

Back ground
Back in Nov of 2003 our company upgraded from 2.4.19 smp to 2.4.23 and then 2.4.24
since the 2.4.23 and including the 2.4.24 kernel
we have dell 1750 and 2650 that give these errors..
