X issue on a Dell 1650 w/ RH 7.3

Recently installed Red Hat Linux 7.3 on a Dell PowerEdge 1650. System
worked fine until one of the DBA's attempted to install DB2 for Linux. Now
system refuses to run X windows. When I reboot the system, xfs fails to
start and X loads as a blank, black screen. Checking /var/log/messages
reveals the following interesting entries...

Mar 18 23:13:03 chicago crond: crond startup succeeded
Mar 18 23:13:03 chicago xfs: xfs: error while loading shared libraries:
libXfont.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Mar 18 23:13:03 chicago xfs: xfs startup failed
Mar 18 23:13:03 chicago anacron: anacron startup succeeded
Mar 18 23:13:03 chicago atd: atd startup succeeded
Mar 18 23:13:03 chicago modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module
Mar 18 23:13:12 chicago kdm[1108]: IO Error in XOpenDisplay
Mar 18 23:13:12 chicago kdm[1099]: Display :0 cannot be opened

Doing a find for "libXfont.so.1" reveals this to be a symbolic link in
/usr/X11R6/lib pointing to libXfont.so.1.4. File permissions on
libXfont.so.1.4 are rwxr-xr-x root root.

So far so good...so what happened that xfs doesn't see this library? We
still haven't gotten DB2 to load, and the DB2 installer is GUI based, so now
we need to fix this X issue before we can continue.

Appreciate any advice,
