Oh so you're not using a RH kernel. 
(the SGI linux kernels use a compiler known to miscompile 64 bit drivers
which happens on the bigmem/enterprise kernels a lot)

Which compiler did you use ? gcc 2.96 ? or egcs ?

sending the e820 info (the first lines of dmesg) would be most helpful
