I have removed 'reboot=bios, smp' and have left 'acpi=off' in my grub.conf
file and now reboots seem to be working correctly!

Thanks,

            Joe

When you are doing all of the steps I have mentioned, do you have:
reboot=bios,smp   still in grub.conf ?

If so, take it out and then try what I've suggested below. Let me know.

I have turned apmd off and modified the kernel startup with acpi=off,
problem still occurs.

Turn off APMD (Advanced Power Mgmt.) dameon then try and reboot the server.

run this command: service apmd stop

 - or -

In lilo.conf, use 'append = "acpi=off"' to disable ACPI on startup

In grub.conf, use "acpi=off" at the end of your kernel line to disable ACPI
on startup.

Joseph,

What is the command you are using to reboot the server?

Subject: PE4600 reboot problem

I have installed RedHat 7.2 on a PE4600. When I reboot the server it just
hangs at the restarting server message. I have added the 'reboot=bios, smp'
option to the grub kernel startup line:

kernel /vmlinuz-2.4.9-34smp ro root=/dev/sda5 reboot=bios,smp acpismp=force

But it does not seem to help. The same problem occurs with the standard
kernel (2.4.7-10smp) and I have tried the errata kernel (2.4.9-34smp).

Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?

Thanks,

            Joe Ashby
