Dell 1855 NIC problem...

Hi there,

I've just subscribed to this list in order to find a solution to a problem
that I'm having with my Dell PowerEdge 1855 servers. Their NIC simply do not
connect to the switch! I've done a lot of tests in the network
infra-structure (cabling, switches configuration, etc.) and found no error.
I also have Dell PowerEdge 2850 servers in this network and it is working
properly.

Here are some commands that show a little more:

uname -r:
2.6.16-21_0.25_smp

cat etc/SuSE-Release
SUSE LINUX 10.1 (x86_64)
Version 10.1

ethtool eth0
Settings for eth0:
        Supported ports: [ FIBRE ]
        Supported link modes: 1000baseT/Full
        Supports auto-negotiation: Yes
        Advertised link modes: 1000baseT/Full
        Advertised auto-negotiation: Yes
        Speed: Unknown! (65535)
        Duplex: Unknown! (255)
        Port: FIBRE
        PHYAD: 0
        Transceiver: internal
        Auto-negotiation: on
        Supports Wake-on: umbg
        Wake-on: d
        Current Message Devel: 0x00000007 (7)
        Link detected: no

What I find mostly strange is that the interface is shown as a Fibre. But It
is a normal Twisted Pair (UTP). I've tried to fix that the eth0 interface
with the command: ethtool -s eth0 speed 100 port tp duplex full autoneg off,
but It was unsuccessful.

Really appreciate any help,
Murilo Barreto
