Hi Andrew,

Currently I install SCO version 5 on Dell PowerEdge 1650.
SCO master installation CD has volume name "SCO_502C"
I had followed your step as described below, but the installation
failed.

Here is the message appear at the screen:

Checking system state and loading installation files.
Please wait ...

Reading from install source: 1030KB
System Error 17:
       while creating symlink.
/bin/sh

Press <Enter> to continue.

** Safe to Power Off **
          -- or --
** Press Any Key to Reboot **

The chipset of PE1650 is the same with PE2650 (AIC7899). Is that right?

Please help.

Eric, The 2650 system when in SCSI mode has the Aic7899 Chipset which is
essentially a
Adaptec AHA39160 SCSI Controller. You need a SCO BTLD "ad160" Driver.
The 5.06 version includes this driver but 5.05 did not.

Below is a link to the "ad160" driver. And info in a Readme to Create
the
Floppy Image.
At boot time when at the "boot:" Prompt Type "link" (With no Quotes) It
should come back
and ask "Which Packages do you want to link in" type "ad160" (With no
Quotes).

ftp://ftp.sco.com/pub/openserver5/drivers/OSR505/btld/ad160/

Once it Loads the Kernel to should come back asking for you to insert
the
image Diskette which contains
"ad160" Insert the new Diskette and continue on.

Once you get to the choice of install Media make sure the "IDE CDROM" is
selected. If I remember correctly
also change the IDE CDROM setting from "Master/Slave" to
"Master/Primary"
and the install should continue
 as normal.

Thanks,
Andrew
