Hello Paul,

I solved it by adding this option to the kernel command line:

reboot=bios,warm

I added it to the grub configuration (in /boot/grub/menu.lst) for the currently 
configured kernel as well as in the line beginning with "# defoptions" for the 
future upgrades.
