Thanks Doug, that worked

now when I type       dkms status         i get:     nvidia, 100.14.19: added

Then I tried startx     didn't work and got the following errors;

FATAL: Module nvidia not found
(EE) Nvidia (0): failed to load the nvidia kernel module!
(EE) Nvidia (0):  *** aborting ***
(EE) Screen (s) found, but none have a usuable configuration

Any suggestion on how to get the X running? Thanks. Paul B
