Precision T3400 / RHEL5 / DKMS / NVIDIA NVS290

Freshly install of RHEL5 and now need to install DKMS so I can load the deriver 
for the nVidia NVS290 graphics card.

downloaded  dkms-2.0.17-1.src.rpm to /tmp

at the command prompt ran;   rpm -Uvh dkms-2.0.17-1.src.rpm

got the following message; warning user mdomsch does not exist - using root   AND 
warning group mdomsch does not exist - using root.

Seemed to install OK as got a lot of hashes and then 100%

Typed in    dkms status      

got the following message     -bash: dkms: command not found

Please let me know how to install dkms properly. Thanks. Paul B
