Hello Glenn,
I'm happy to learn that you got the sound working for your new machine.
I don't intend to hijack this thread :-) but since you mentioned
precision 690, I'd be grateful if you could share what are your
(snd-hda-intel) module parameters. In particular what did you use for
the "model=" option, if you have to use any. I run debian/sid and
encounter a similar phenomenon -- sound card detected, module loads fine
etc, but no sound. I try various ones like model=basic, model=3stack,
... and even model=dell but I got no luck.
