RHEL 4 audio problems -- update

Just want to give the list an update on the RHEL 4 audio problems seen
with the integrated audio on Precision desktops. The original
snd-had-intel RPM we put out was originally just a workaround until Red
Hat could get the native support into RHEL 4, but that RPM seems to have
taken on a life of its own. We have been focusing our recent efforts
with Red Hat on fixing the problems with the native RHEL 4 driver
(snd-azx), as that is the preferred solution (so that audio "just works"
out of the box). With our testing of the RHEL 4.5 beta, the audio
problems appear to be resolved. If anyone has access to the beta, I
would encourage you to try out the beta kernel to help us confirm that
the audio problems are ineed fixed. We would like that to be the driver
that everyone uses going forward, assuming it works satisfactorily for
everyone.
