You are welcome Bruno,
The livecd that worked great out of the box for my m6300 was the Mandriva
x86_64 live cd. I am responding using it right now. It detected all the
hardware automatically. Wireless worked using the ipw3945 kernel module.
I just click on the ethernet icon on the status bar to select my access
point and inserted my encryption key. The sound card was automatically
configured, I just had to turn the volume down on one of the mux inputs.
I am not sure what the problem with the ipw3945 kernel module between the
different distributions, but the ipw3945 works fine as setup by Mandriva.
I've tried Fedora 8, Ubuntu and Mandriva, all 64 bit versions, but not
Opensuse. Mandriva worked best. I am using Ubuntu because I previously had
it installed on my Inspiron 1100 and this was a hardware upgrade for me. I
backed up my home directory and restored it onto the m6300. I may dual-boot
to Mandriva and try it out some time in the future.
