No sound after upgrading to RHEL4.4

Ok. I re-installed the box again with update 3 CDs. Then I installed
kernel 2.6.9-42.EL. So I have two kernels on this box:

kernel-2.6.9-34.EL
kernel-2.6.9-42.EL

kernel-2.6.9-34.EL audio works fine. kernel-2.6.9-42.EL has no sound. So
something broke between 2.6.9-34 and 2.6.9-42.

I modified my /etc/modprobe.conf as suggested. It didn't seem to harm
anything (I can still hear sound when I boot into 2.6.9-34) but it
certianly didn't help. I still can't hear any audio when booting into
2.6.9-42. Thus I am going to change /etc/modprobe.conf back to the way it
was set up by the installer. Here is what it looked like:

[root at moreproof ~]# cat /etc/modprobe.conf
alias eth0 tg3
alias scsi_hostadapter ata_piix
alias char-major-116 snd
alias char-major-14 soundcore
alias snd-card-0 snd-azx
alias sound-slot-0 snd-card-0
alias sound-service-0-0 snd-mixer-oss
alias sound-service-0-1 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-3 snd-pcm-oss
alias sound-service-0-8 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-12 snd-pcm-oss
alias /dev/mixer snd-mixer-oss
alias /dev/dsp snd-pcm-oss
alias /dev/midi snd-seq-oss
options snd-card-0 index=0
install snd-azx /sbin/modprobe --ignore-install snd-azx && /usr/sbin/alsactl restore >/dev/null 2>&1 || :
remove snd-azx { /usr/sbin/alsactl store >/dev/null 2>&1 || : ; }; /sbin/modprobe -r --ignore-remove snd-azx
alias usb-controller ehci-hcd
alias usb-controller1 uhci-hcd

Thanks for the suggestion. Any other ideas?
