onboard SATA raid on Dell WS670

We are deploying a number of Dell WS670 workstations which have Suse 9.3
64 bit as the OS.  We have two 160GB Sata drives and are using the
Software raid in Suse to mirror (Raid 1) the drives.  One of my
co-workers informed me that the spec sheet read that there was onboard
raid and why weren't we using it.  Is the onboard raid considered
hardware raid and is it better  than using the software raid in Suse.
Do we need special 
drivers for the on-board raid??  Could someone please educate me about
the onboard raid.
