I am running into a problem updating the onboard NetXtreme II BCM5709 Gigabit Ethernet firmware from the latest yum repo (14.04.00):

Running updates...
\ Installing pci_firmware(ven_0x14e4_dev_0x1639_subven_0x1028_subdev_ ...Installation failed for package: pci_firmware(ven_0x14e4_dev_0x1639_subven_0x1028_subdev_0x0235) - 7.8.53
aborting update...

The error message from the low-level command was:

Update failure. Firmware programming utility returned an error.

The system is an R710 running RHEL 6.5 with latest updates and OMSA 7.4.0

# omreport chassis info
Chassis Model : PowerEdge R710
System Revision : II

# omreport system operatingsystem
Operating System : Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server
Operating System Version : release 6.5 (Santiago) Kernel 2.6.32-431.5.1.el6.x86_64 (x86_64)

The same problem occurred a while ago when trying to update the NetXtreme to its current (7.8.16) firmware level and I ended up using Lifecycle Controller to complete the update.

Any help in resolving the issue is appreciated.

Thanks
Stefan
