Hi Richard,

You can use the OMSA/hardware repository to update the BIOS/Firmware on your system. This repo contains officially-supported firmware updates.

Repo:
http://linux.dell.com/repo/hardware/latest/

wiki:
http://linux.dell.com/wiki/index.php/Repository/OMSA

thanks
Santosh

Subject: BIOS / Firmware updates on Dell R910 (RHEL 5.7 64-bit)

Hi,

I was trying to follow the instructions in the "Dell Update Packages
Version 6.5 for Operating Systems" User's Guide to perform
BIOS/firmware updates on a Dell R910 server running Red Hat Enterprise
Linux 5.7 (64-bit).

- The first step appears to work:

# wget -q -O - http://linux.dell.com/repo/firmware/bootstrap.cgi | bash
Installing dell-firmware-repository-1-4.noarch.rpm
Done!

- The second step fails:

# yum install dell_ft_install
Setting up Install Process
No package dell_ft_install available.
Nothing to do

File /etc/yum.repos.d/dell-firmware-repository.repo looks as follows:

[fwupdate]
name=Firmware updates
#baseurl=http://linux.dell.com/repo/firmware/cross-distro
mirrorlist=http://linux.dell.com/repo/firmware/mirrors.pl?dellsysidpluginver=$dellsysidpluginver
enabled=1
gpgcheck=1
gpgkey=file:///etc/pki/rpm-gpg/RPM-GPG-KEY-libsmbios

Uncommenting the baseurl line makes no difference. Any idea what I'm
doing wrong? The linux.dell.com site is reachable on port 80 from the
server I'm attempting to upgrade.

Thanks,

Richard
