OMSA 6.3 from dell repo - no controller found

I didn't think it was  a 32-bit vs 64-bit problem, but a problem with
newer Linux kernels. See this post from last year:

http://lists.us.dell.com/pipermail/linux-poweredge/2009-May/039187.html

Essentially I have an old PE2850 with a PERC4 card, and once I
upgraded from Debian Etch to Lenny, Sara's OpenManage stopped seeing
the disk controller.

The problem is that the sara Debian packages are both available at 32
and 64 bit, but only up to OMSA 6.0. While the "official" Dell OMSA
6.3 package for Ubuntu is only available for 9.10 or 10.04 at 64-bit.

Now I'm debating to switch that Debian Lenny server to Ubuntu. The
options I have are:

*) Ubuntu 10.04/64bit. OMSA 6.3 is available, but it cannot see the controller

*) Ubuntu 8.04 (32 or 64bit).  I can get OMSA 6.0 from the sara site;
but that unofficial package is not getting updated anymore. But the
2.6.24 kernel in Ubuntu 8.04 should be able to let OMSA see the
controller (in theory; I haven't tried it yet).
