Those drives are hot swappable. If you want to make sure you can watch the rebuild kick off in OMSA.

Subject: Replace failing drive on PERC 5i PE2950 RAID 1 Array

Hello everyone,

   We have a Dell PE2950 with a Perc 5i controller. It has a RAID 1
array with two 73GB disks and a RAID 5 array with three 146GB disks. As
you can see from the output below, we are starting to see "Media Errors"
on PD 8:1

[Adapter 0]
PD[8:0]=(SEAGATE/ST373454SS/S4113/KP3MYPL)
ME=0,OE=0,PF=0,FW=Online,F=None
PD[8:1]=(SEAGATE/ST373454SS/S4113/KP3QNVM)
ME=70,OE=0,PF=0,FW=Online,F=None
PD[8:2]=(SEAGATE/ST3146854SS/S4113/KN2FKMY)
ME=0,OE=0,PF=0,FW=Online,F=None
PD[8:3]=(SEAGATE/ST3146854SS/S4113/KN2FJJL)
ME=0,OE=0,PF=0,FW=Online,F=None
PD[8:4]=(SEAGATE/ST3146854SS/S4113/KN2FKYX)
ME=0,OE=0,PF=0,FW=Online,F=None
VD[0:0]=(,R(1,0,0),69376MB,#2,Optimal)
VD[0:1]=(,R(5,0,3),278784MB,#3,Optimal)

A few weeks ago it was at 4, a couple of weeks ago it went to 6, and
recently it jumped to 70. Time to replace it. So the new drive is
hours away from delivery, and I am wondering how exactly I should
replace this drive. Should I just pull it out hot and plug the new one
in? Do I need to do anything from the PERC BIOS?

-Ken
