Please check /etc/init.d/dsm_om_connsvc for the line
  START_DAEMON ${PROGRAM_DAEMON} -clrun >/dev/null 2>&1 &
The check around this was added by Bas in the latest release, to run 
this command on Debian Lenny (and also on Ubuntu?) instead of the Etch 
command
  START_DAEMON ${PROGRAM_DAEMON} -run
Try changing the Lenny line back to the Etch line, and let us know if 
that works. In that case, only the check would need to be modified, to 
not use the Lenny line for Ubuntu.
