DELL PE 2550
I had to install an adaptec U160 SCSI card and then was able to install
windows or Linux or just boot to knoppix. the CD/Drive is recognized but is
not available... says insert disk... HMMM maybe bad IDE controller
have swapped out drives and checked cables and connections.

so I just plugged up an old 50 pin SCSI CD rom drive form 10 years ago. also
I am installing a sata card in the server so I can use a sata CD/ DVD drive
to load images and data on in the future. the 2550 does not support USB as a
boot I dont believe, but the SATA card and drives would be a good
alternative if you are having trouble getting the system up and running

I was able to boot to knoppix and format drives and copy data and get the
system layout and devices. perhaps this would be of help also to have a
formatted drive so you could load copy the drivers over to the second hard
drive. I have 5 70 GB drives individually setup no raid, because the server
is a test platform / backup device.
