flakey perc6 output/nagios checks

At my day job, we use a lot of Dell servers.
The platform I'm about to describe is R900s with both Perc6e and Perc6i,
running CentOS 5.2.

We did the "official" OMSA install, and I then added in the nagios checks
(check_om_chassis and check_om_storage).
Everything went swimmingly for a couple of months, but we're now seeing a
rash of nagios check errors on the storage.
I've checked the plugins in verbose mode, and it doesn't appear that it's
the plugins, but rather, omreport that is causing the error (or at least
reporting it).

For example:
[dan at leia ~]$ omreport storage pdisk controller=1
List of Physical Disks on Controller PERC 6/i Integrated (Embedded)

But for controller 0, the Perc6e:
[dan at leia ~]$ omreport storage pdisk controller=0

                             ^

<Vendor type="astring">DELL&#-103; </Vendor>
<truncated>

All controllers are on the latest firmware, the operating system is updated,
etc.
Ring any bells?

Thanks.
