Kernel error on CD-RW/DVD ROM

I had one reply offline that suggested removing the /media/cdrecord
entry in /etc/fstab indicating that one of the manipulating I/O daemons
was tickling the drive while performing other activities that touch the
file systems. This made sense to me since the last message was
generated right after I'd added space to an LVM partition. One other
suggested putting a readable CD into the drive and see if the messages
continued and in what manner. I opted to comment out the entry in
/etc/fstab although if there is a real underlying problem I may not know
about it before I get bitten. I guess time will tell.

	These look familiar. I want to say they went away after
disabling a setting for a virtual cdrom in the BIOS, but honestly I
can't be sure. Thought I'd mention it, because I know I have seen them
before, and if I'm right it would be a simple fix, but we upgraded a
while ago, and I gave that box to our windows admins to add to the
citrix farm, so I can't verify it.

	We have been getting the same errors. No idea what's causing it
either and unable to solve it.

	As with you, these are busy servers too. Either production or
heavy testing.

	I've tried to list my problems on my blog. Dell mentioned a DMA
setting but it didn't make a difference.

		I have a 2950 running RHEL4.7 that has been getting the
following errors in its logs. They had been rather infrequent - every
3-6 months, but have been occuring more often lately and are now daily.
/dev/hda is my CD-RW/DVD ROM drive and is not in use when these messages
are generated.

		Apr 9 10:18:18 servera kernel: hda: status error:
status=0x50 { DriveReady SeekComplete }
		Apr 9 10:18:18 servera kernel: hda: status error:
error=0x00
		Apr 10 23:31:02 servera kernel: hda: status error:
status=0x50 { DriveReady SeekComplete }
		Apr 10 23:31:02 servera kernel: hda: status error:
error=0x00

		I've searched the net several times, but have not found
anything similar enough to give me an idea as to how to address this
issue or what level of concern to give it. We don't use OMSA and
generally don't upgrade firmware unless necessary. The server also has
a Perc 5/i controller for the internal SAS drives, RAID 5 configuration.
It is a busy production server. I'm looking for any idea that will help
me trouble-shoot this.
