Is "pediags" useless for PE840's storage?

Centos5.3, OMSA 5.5, dell-onlinediags-2.12.0-71
When you call Dell support, before a tech is dispatched, you have to do what
the Dell support person on the phone asks you to do, this can be:
- OMSA
- Dell diagnostics
Up until now we did this by booting with a CD with OMSA live on it, or into
the diag partition. Now we want to do it online, without rebooting the
server.
Since the servers don't have X installed, I installed on them:
1) OMSA-5.5, which runs fine through its web server
2) dell-onlinediags-2.12.0-71, which I thought contained a GUI (not usable
w/o X) and CLI version (what I wanted to use) of the Dell 32 bit diagnostics
you can run from the diag partition.
However, running "pediags" on a
PE840 + SAS5/iR + 2 SATA HDs configured in RAID1
produces the following output:
=================
# ./pediags sasdevdiag --run test-index=all quicktest=true
...
Device Name : SAS/SATA backplane 1:0
Description : SAS/SATA backplane 1:0
Device Location : Enclosure 1:0
Test Name : SAS Phy Integrity Test
Description : Gets Enclosure and HDD Phy Error Log Information.
Passes : 1
Result : warning
Start Time : Tue Apr 14 18:46:02 2009
Completion Time : Tue Apr 14 18:46:03 2009
Result Event : The Test is not supported on this configuration.Run the
test on a backplane with an expander or a backplane with SAS disks.
==================
Am I right that pediags cannot do any test on the PE840 RAID controller/hard
disks?
In your experience, will a Dell support person be satisfied with OMSA only?
Thanks
