pm-hibernate not working

I'm running RHEL 5.3, kernel 2.6.18-128.el5, on a PE 1950 III. When I
run pm-hibernate to suspend to disk (ACPI state S4) the system doesn't
hibernate. The command takes about 20 seconds to return and then I see
the following in dmesg:

===
Disabling non-boot CPUs ...
CPU 1 is now offline
CPU1 is down
Breaking affinity for irq 82
Breaking affinity for irq 106
CPU 2 is now offline
CPU2 is down
Breaking affinity for irq 82
<...>
CPU 7 is now offline
SMP alternatives: switching to UP code
CPU7 is down
Stopping tasks:
===========================================================================================================================
  stopping tasks timed out after 20 seconds (1 tasks remaining):
   kipmi0
Restarting tasks...<6> Strange, kipmi0 not stopped
  done
Enabling non-boot CPUs ...
<...>
===

So, it starts turning off the CPUs and then appears to encounter a
problem with kipmi0 which causes the suspend to fail and turn everything
back on. I think kipmi is related to Dell's open manage tools. I've got
various open manage packages installed, all version 5.5.0. Any ideas?
