PE2950 + MD3000i and snapshots - reviews sought

Hello to all:

I'd like to gain the wisdom of those who have successfully implemented the 
snapshot feature of the MD3000i.   What has been your experience?   Was it 
rather easy?   Did you need to seek support?   Does it work well?

How does it compare to, say, RHEL/CentOS and something like rsnapshot 
(i.e. OS-implemented [rsnapshot] vs hardware implemented)?
