Testing possible bad drive in RAID5 config

I have a 2950 with Perc 5/i - 6 SAS drives RAID5 from Dell. One of the
drives has an E1810 error. Presumably it is bad, however, the docs
suggest reseating the drive to verify that is the case. We have
non-Dell systems where something like this will bring the system to its
knees if the "replacement" drive is bad. Will the controller be able to
handle this operation? It's a production system and keeping the down
time to a minimum is desired.
