Connecting MD1000 to MD3000 on RHEL 4.6

Hello,

I have an MD3000 connected to a 6950 running RHEL 4.6. We need to connect an
MD1000 to the MD3000, and Dell docs state that all devices should be powered
off to do it.. Since the server is at a remote site I am wondering if the
MD1000 can be cabled ahead of time and then have the MD3000 scan for it at a
later time during a maintenance window somehow instead. I have the following
scenario in my head. Connect the MD1000 to each controller in the 3000 and
power it up, at a later date shutdown the 6950 and then offline one of the
MD3000 controllers, once back online, offline the second controller. Would I
then see my MD1000 dirves and be able to create Virtual disks with it?

If anyone has any experience with this or the this configuration in general
that they could share it would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Mark
