running Perc5/e config utility without reboot?

I'm not entirely sure what you are asking. Have you created the second
virtual disk yet?

To create you need to use 'omconfig storage controller action=createvd
controller=X pdisk=Y:Y:Y,Z:Z:Z raid=rX size=max'

I have a PERC 5i and OM 5.3.0 and would like to do the same thing.
However, omreport doesn't see a second virtual disk (the one I want to
configure) when I run:
	omreport storage vdisk

What do I need to do to get the second disk recognized?

Thanks.

Hi,

I'm using Rocks on my cluster.
I'm planning to connect and use my MD1000 storage (10x 300 Go) and mount
it as /home2.
Some calculations are running on the server and nodes.
Without reboot, I would like to access the Perc5/e controler
configuration to define raid level and create disks space before to
create partition and file system.

Is it possible?
Which commands or utils?

Thanks.

OMSA will allow you to configure your PERC without the need to reboot.

I found a problem on my Debian 4.0 box: I cannot login to

I Guess it all depends on the sales rep. Ours knows I will bargin shop
down to parts if needed. When I call I know what I want. When I want it
I send a quick e-mail with the web based quote and any changes to him, I
normmaly get quotes back within the hour normally and a follow up call
to be sure it has everything I need. If there is a special deal running
for something I've asked for a price on in the last 4 months I'll get a
e-mail saying there is currently a deal running if I'm still interested.

Premier used to have better pricing then the Rep could offer but now not
always, so I do generate equotes, shoot off a e-mailwith the quote to
the rep saying if you can beat the pricing do it and here is the PO,
shipping, etc. And if he can he does the quote, and places the order
for me, I get copied in for everything.

I almost never deal with the Tech Rep who configures the systems as we
tweak them hard for our purposes. The only time I talk with the Tech
rep is when I need info or another option that is not normally offered
and he has learned in the end it saves us both time this way. I have
noticed that when I use him the pricing is sometime a bit higher ut that
sort of makes since, since we used his skills for things.

As for Drive sleds our sales rep has gone through the process of chasing
down the part numbers and ordering just the sleads for us. We did this
on our last 2950. Had to order it with a single 80 gig so that they
would build and ship it, but he made arrangements for 5 additional sleds
to be shipped and when they arrived we replaced all of the drives with
750 gig drives before Dell started providing them.

Granted we've spend almost a half Million in the last 24 months (90% of
it 16-24 months ago). And when we did we bargined real hard. But our
rep has been great, even the rep before him was very good.

In the last company I worked for we had one like you describe. So I
insisted that I get a new one, they didn't want to do it but when
threatened with me going someplace else they finally gave in (Sent specs
for systems to Dell, HP with both knowing about the other).

Yes I've had similar experiences. One time I blatantly called the
previous sales rep for our university an idiot to his supervisor when he
failed to recognize mistakes in pricing due to javascript coding errors
on their website, even after showing him the evidence. The sales rep was
probably reassigned or fired, now I feel bad for doing it, but our
current sales rep is much more responsive, gets quotes to us asap.

One thing that has really annoyed me is Dell's aggressive price
discrimination. For example the prices on their university/institution
website are not the best prices one can get. If you have a specific
university rep you can save 10-20% on purchases by going through them,
just give them the equote you generate online and they'll send you their
dramatically reduced price. I hadn't been doing this for several months
since it was just faster to generate the equote and purchase the item at
the online price at a loss of several hundred dollars.
When I mentioned this fact to our sales rep (even for a very recent
order, i.e. less than 30 days) they said nothing could be done and
basically told me that something like "well, I'm giving you a cheaper
price now, so what's the big deal?". The big deal is that we could have
saved thousands of dollars over more than a year's worth of purchases. I
knew I could return the system since it was well within the return
policy and re-purchase it but decided not to since it was already racked
and setup, etc.

Yea, they'll do that.

HAH, don't even get me started with Apple. I don't know how anyone can
stand to do business with them, especially in the enterprise. We
actually refunded a service agreement due to their incompetence.
