/me glances at Jon.  He'll be back from holiday in a few days,
let's take this up with him then.  

Thanks for your patience on this - I agree it should be simpler.

One change we got into Fedora 9 is that the DKMS autoinstaller is
automatically invoked after a new kernel RPM is installed; no need to
wait for a reboot.  It also cleans up on kernel uninstall.
