Manual restarts have been a problem for us as well. About six months ago
I spoke with Dell support on this and they say that the inability of the
RAC to auto-start the machines is purposeful, not an oversight. This is
to prevent overloading the power supplies at boot time.

This seemed somewhat silly to me since the machines have substantial
redundant power resources and could easily be configured for staggered
powerup if overloading them was truly a concern. And to add a layer of
frosting to the silliness, the RAC offers a command line way to power
them all on at the same time.

But I digress ;')

The best work-around that I've found for getting them all fired up
quickly is to telnet to the RAC and issue the following command:

  serveraction -m all powerup

It still means that somebody will need to be awake and able to reach the
RAC via telnet when the power comes back on but it's the best I've come
up with.

If anybody else on the list has better information I'd sure love to hear
it. We've had power problems at a colocation facility and the lack of
auto-start has been a pain for us several times.
