Quick hack is to use a USB CDROM drive - they still work fine.  SATA DVD drives have been problematic in linux - I don't 
know if it's been completely fixed yet, but I know last time I was spec'ing whiteboxes about 6 months ago, it wasn't 
anywhere near ready.
