PE2900 too noisy for office?

No.  My vote is to keep it in your basement.

I had two recent 2900's in a training room.  The people in the cubicles
right outside the door of the training room, requested that I keep the
door closed to the training room while the servers where in there.

The 2950 seemed louder to me than the 2900.

I had a single 2900 that was in my office for the past six months and
rejoiced when it was finally placed where it belonged.

They are good machines and they may be quieter than previous gens, but
not quiet enough for me and a few fellow employees.
