Enable IPMI on Dell 1955 blades

Tim,
Can you 'arping' the BMC from a host connected to the same
Ethernet? I.e.
arping 10.5.168.10
If you can't arping it, you need to start at the physical
level -- ports, cables, link lights, etc. Are you using the
first ethernet interface for the blade? I'm almost certain
that the BMC is only on the first interface, not the second.
If all that seems OK, try hooking up another machine directly
(you might need a crossover cable since the BMC is 100Mb, I'm
not sure). As long as you specify the outgoing interface from
the test machine correctly using arping -I <interface>, you
should be able to get an arping response without even configuring
the IP settings on the test machine's port. (I believe.)
If testing with another host works, then the 1955 is fine, so
check the cable, the switch, the switch port configuration, etc.
I this failure specific to this hardware? Do you have other
1955s whose BMC you can reach OK? Are they in that same chassis?
Have you tried reseating the blade, just in case the BMC got
into a funky state? (Although I have a lot of 1955s, and don't
think I've ever seen a situation like that.)
I assume you can reach the OS fine over the same Ethernet cable?
