RE MD1000 recommendations?

We have a MD1000 here and; Yes, indeed it's not blazingly fast (which you 
might want to take into account though (eg:for backup)). It's working well 
on RHEL-4.3.

The only problem I have is that 'til now I couldn't yet setup SNMP 
monitoring to monitor the status of the PCI-e RAID card it is attached to. 
Because it seems that there's a limitation when you have 2 RAID cards on a 
single machine; IIRW, only one RAID card per machine can be monitored via 
SNMP&OpenManage.
