Mixing SAS and SATA drives

Hi,

I know that has been beaten to death in recent weeks but I'm just about to
make a significant investment in a rack and PE2950 servers. So I want to be
sure.

What I want to do is mix SAS and SATA drives on each server.

I specified the following to Dell Ireland.

1x6 Backplane for 3.5-inch Hard Drives
2X73GB, SAS, 3.5-inch, 15.000 rpm Hard Drive
4X750GB, SATA, 3.5-inch, 7200 rpm Hard Drive
PERC 6/i, x6 Backplane, Integrated RAID Controller Card

I want to configure the 2 SAS drives as a RAID 1 array for the OS, CentOS-5
and the 4 SATA drives as a RAID 5 array for data.

But Dell Ireland tell me I can't mix SAS and SATA drives and refuse to supply
me with a mixed configuration.

>>Can't mix SATA and SAS disks. So we can't supply 2X73GB, SAS, 3.5-inch,
>>15.000 rpm Hard Drive 4X750GB, SATA, 3.5-inch, 7200 rpm Hard Drive.
>>Instead I've configured 2X73GB, SAS, 3.5-inch, 15.000 rpm Hard Drive
>>4X400GB, SAS, 3.5-inch, 10,000 rpm Hard Drive.

Can I do this and if I can how do I get Dell to supply me with that
configuration.

Regards,

Tony
