PowerVault MD3000 with controller redundancy

Hello everybody:

I have a PE2970 server with the two following SAS controllers on Ubuntu
8.04 i686 server:

0e:08.0 SCSI storage controller: LSI Logic / Symbios Logic SAS1068 PCI-X
Fusion-MPT SAS (rev 01)
10:08.0 SCSI storage controller: LSI Logic / Symbios Logic SAS1068 PCI-X
Fusion-MPT SAS (rev 01)

Both are connecting to a PowerVault MD3000 which also has two
controllers connected to the mentioned server.

I managed to install (and made a Debian package) the DELL 'Modular Disk
Storage Manager' to access and configure the unit. When ONLY one server
controller is connected and virtual disk have a Preferred path through
that controller, everything works fine, but when, under the same
conditions, the second controller is connected (working both controllers
together), additional device files are created and system errors are
sent like the following:

[ 225.703702] end_request: I/O error, dev sdd, sector 0
[ 226.252845] end_request: I/O error, dev sdd, sector 0
[ 226.252849] printk: 53 messages suppressed.
[ 226.252852] Buffer I/O error on device sdd, logical block 0
[ 226.802945] end_request: I/O error, dev sdf, sector 4269791104
[ 227.335346] end_request: I/O error, dev sdf, sector 4269791104
[ 227.867860] end_request: I/O error, dev sdf, sector 0
[ 228.400370] end_request: I/O error, dev sdf, sector 0

I tried to install multipath-tools to deal with the controller
redundancy but I had no success for now. My questions are:

a) Has anyone made work an MD3000 with controller redundancy under
Ubuntu 8.04 using multipath-tools? Does it support the MD3000 storage
unit?

b) Has anyone manage to compile Dell 'RDAC Multi-Path Proxy Driver for
Linux' under Ubuntu 8.4 i686? I tried, but I only get compilation errors
which I can not understand. Is 'dkms' package related?

Any comments/advices are welcomed, as my only option right now (apart
from not using Ubuntu) is suppressing one SAS controller and not working
with redundancy.

Thanks in advance

Regards
