PE 1650 - Can't get Intel PRO NIC working

Do you have a working system with a regular PCI slot? Install the 64
bit Intel card in that slot. It will fit, but part of the card will
hang over the edge of the slot. That is OK. If the card works in that
system you will know that the 64 bit slot or the 64 bit functionality of
the card is crippled. Further, understand that we are talking about PCI
data paths here. If the 3C905 is not keyed for 5v, you can test the 64
bit slot with it too

UPDATE: I know (think?) that the PCI riser card is working. I installed
an old 32-bit 3Com 905C-TX card in it and it worked perfectly. Now,
that still doesn't tell me if the 64-bit side is working or not, but at
least it's doing something! Any help at all would be appreciated.

Thanx!

Hello,

I recently installed the PCI (32bit & 64bit) riser + an Intel PRO Dual
NIC (J1679) into my PE 1650. Everything went well until I rebooted the
machine. First off, it threw an "IMB Bus Error" and then complained
about an unknown PCI device. The BIOS then confirmed the SCSI setup and
stopped - never completing the boot process. I tried to enter the setup
(F2) and after rebooting several times I finally got in, but there was
nothing unusual in there. I even reset the NV_RAM jumper to clear the
BIOS but that didn't help. I removed the Intel card but kept the PCI
riser in place and the system booted up perfectly.

I'm not positive the card is OK (got it from eBay) but it looks like
it's in good shape and came wrapped in a static bag. I don't really
have another system to test it on or another card to test the 1650 with.
I'm pretty much out of ideas, besides purchasing another card and trying
again.

Am I missing something here? Is this card compatible with the PE 1650?
Is there some configuration setting I'm missing? Do I have to turn off
the internal NICs to get this one recognized? I need 4 Ethernet ports
on this box and I think that this is the way to go. Does anyone have
any other thoughts on this?

Thanx!
  Richard
