64bit or not ?

I agree, it's all a matter of packages... The devel packages are not  
always as up to date as needed (or not as older as needed)... And if  
you have to download libgd for example to compile it from sources, to  
download its dependencies because they are not in the repository  
either...
It's always easy to have libraries ready in the right place...

I'm not againt 64 bit systems. I just expose what happed to me when I  
tried 2 years ago to install Apache + PHP + extentions on a EM64T OS  
(RHEL3)

As Tino Schwarze noted, build systems are now fixed (I hope !)
