10 gigabit ethernet

We used Myricom NICs (PCI-e x8, CX4 interface(copper)) and actually
purchased them through Dell, though I don't know if they provide any
support. Myricom has been very helpful in providing any support we
needed though. I believe you can get CX4 versions of the Myricom card
for about $695 each. We got CX4 ports for our Dell PowerConnect very
inexpensively and the cost including a CX4 cable was under
$900/system/connection. We did have some issues with the CX4 cables we
got from Dell and Myricom recommended Gore for reliable cabling, which
we ended up buying.

We used these as part of a SuperComputing 2007 demo for high-energy
physics and they have worked very well for us. I was able to do 9.9
Gbps between two PE2950s with these cards on the same PC6248 switch
running Iperf (tcp).

Subject: 10 gigabit ethernet

Which card(s) are best supported by Dell and Dell's Linux team for 10Gb
Ethernet support?

I am also looking for possible implementation of FCoE, Virtualization
support, and PCI-E, PCI-X, and low profile solutions.

Thanks,

Jim
