BIOS upgrade problem

I'm in the same situation. I have a PE2950 running Debian Etch and I've 
updated the PERC bios without a problem, but the system BIOS is a PITA. 
Although I didn't tried with the 2950 I've tried with a 1435 and the only 
solution was the live cd, which worked at the very first try. As said I'm 
running Debian Etch (just like you) with OMSA installed from sara repository 
on both machines, and everything work fine, apart from system bios upgrade.
