I have done it with a PERC 5/i in a PE2950.

Take a look at this thread:

Subject: Is it possible to mix SAS & SATA disks using PERC 6/i in a pe2950 III?

Hi,
We plan to purchase two servers this year for our newly developed
management system which has three tiers, the database is PostgreSQL and
the middle is Tomcat. We're considering PE2950 III with a PERC 6/i raid
card. Is it possible to mix SAS and SATA disks there, so we can benefit
from faster SAS for database access and cheaper SATA for other bulk
archives simultaneously? If so, will there be any performance penalty
or other issues? Oh, the OS will be Centos-5.1.
Does anyone here has any experience with such configuration?
    Thanks in advance!

Regards,
Frank Wang
