Josh,
We've got 3 of these, and I'd say on a day-to-day basis - I'm really happy with them.
My Caveats (and why I probably won't be buying too many more of them):
1. Getting the per core/per CPU stats was less than simple. In fact, SNMP (Simple...NMP...) was not capable of getting per CPU load. It's just NOT in the MIB. Have to write a mpstat script to get these stats - still haven't bothered to do it.
2. Memory. Oh boy. Try and buy THAT RAM in your local electronics store. Here's a simple test. Navigate to Dell's website, buy accessories for your model, pick memory. So you now have a tab to "see compatible systems". If you select that page there are NO OTHER servers or models of PC listed! Try it with almost any other model and you have a lot of options. So, not that it's technically that much of a surprise, but when you desperately need 8GB of RAM overnight, you'll not be stealing it from any other systems, and you will not be buying it from the corner drug store! OR even the high end electronics warehouses we have nearby here in Silicon Valley!
One of the primary reasons we are with the Dells is that they are cheap and commodity. I can buy many and just sling em around where I need. Low cost, low effort, results in high value. The 2970's are somehow not quite commodity for me anymore! Ouch!
Erik

Is anyone running 2970s? We've got a good number of 2950s in-house
these days, but an upcoming project might be more suited to an Opteron
architecture.
I'm mainly interested in things like OpenManage being feature-comparable,
along with the ESM being as useful as the 2950s...
thanks
