Research is key. Most of the Adaptec cards for your application I find
are "LPE," Low Profile PCI-Express. You will need a full-sized PCI
plate (http://images.google.com/images?q=pci+backplate) if you want to
use that in this server.

Did you call tech support? Their tool would have provided this
information:

Part#: NU947 Description: U320 PCIE SCSI Controller Card (Supports LH)
CRD,CTL,U320,PCIE,SCSI,LSI,ENT

Here is a nice website with pictures:

Hopefully you won't have any more trouble with finding the correct part.
You should be able to return the WC263 controller and get the other LSI
controller from Dell.

Subject: New Adaptec 39320A Dell PN WC263 won`t fit into PE 2950 III

Hi,

I just received my Adaptec 39320A, Dell PN WC263 and it won`t fit into
expansion slot of the new PE 2950 III.

I ordered this yesterday from Dell, sales rep assured me that this was
the correct SCSI controller for this unit and that it would fit into
server without any adapter or riser card. SCSI card has the same size
connectors in same place that my older adaptec SCSI has, which also did
not fit.

Do I now need a riser card to make this fit?
